"Believe you can….and you are halfway there!"
"There’s no such thing as failure, only results."
"Either find a way or make one."
Below are the most common question I receive from students and parents/guardians alike. Please use the Contact Me page if you cannot find an answer to your question from this page.
Yes. Students are consistently reminded to makeup missing assignments. Should they do a missing assignment, they can get a maximum of 80% on it (20% is deducted for late work), which is still way better than a 0%. Also, if they already did a homework and the score is not that good (ex. They got a 10% on that assignment), they can still go back and redo the homework and get a better score. Students MUST EMAIL TEACHER as these scores need to be manually entered and updated in the gradebook.
The school offers AFTER school tutoring on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (3:15-4:15pm). Students can also access a free tutoring service from the school’s website. For more information about this free tutoring, please visit CG LIbrary site.
Consultation hours are from 7:00 to 7:55am, during Cougar Hour (as long as you secure a pass from your teacher), and from 3:00 to 3:45pm. I highly recommend that you inform or email me first before coming to my room so I can let you know if I won't be available due to other engagements (i.e. meeting, training, etc).
Typically, the main reason for students not passing is because of failed chapter tests (common assessments). Chapter Tests are 50% of the quarter grades – meaning, any failed tests can drastically pull the grades down. Quizzes also may be another reason, as they are 25% of the quarter grades.
Students are consistently reminded to retake tests or quizzes they failed or want to improve on. They are allowed 1 retake for each test or quiz. They can retake tests during the after-school tutoring or come in early in the morning before school (teacher is in school usually around 6:50am).
First of all, a test/quiz makeup is when you were unable to do the assessment on the scheduled day. A quiz/test retake, on the other hand, is when you have done the assessment but want to get a better grade on it. Whichever the case, it is imperative that students fill out the Test Scheduling Form (link found in this website under Classes, and in Announcements part of MathXL/MathLab). No submitted request, no makeup/retake.
For retaking a chapter test: (1) pick a schedule on when to retake the test, (2) answer ALL the questions on the retake review (found right below each chapter test/common assessment), (3) score on the retake review must be 70% or better, and must be attained at least a day BEFORE the scheduled test, and (4) show up to retake the test.
For retaking a quiz: same steps as retaking chapter test except for (2) complete the MASTER POINTS required in the Study Plan for the quiz retake.
All class notes are uploaded and are accessible from Class Notes (found in Office 365 under OneNote). I also have them available in this website (please go to your respective class in the top menu). If students want to access their textbook or some video presentations of our lesson, they need to go to Pearson Realize from PowerSchool. **For Seniors, they can access their textbook from MathLab.
I typically give 5% extra on the quiz if the student turn in complete work on paper of each HW covered in that quiz. Another 5% is given on the chapter test if ALL paper work is turned in for the whole chapter. Once in a while, I will announce other opportunities to earn extra credit (ex. participating in Spirit Week).
